Bauhaus. Model and Myth.
Nowadays Bauhaus is known for modern design and revolutionary architecture, but it wasn't always the case. This film shows that the German art school was so much more.
Bauhaus. Model and Myth by Niels Bolbrinker and Kerstin Stutterheim explores the history of Bauhaus from its revolutionary beginnings after World War I to the developments in Nazi Germany and the entanglements of some of the Bauhaus-scholars in it. Through a collection of archival material of the Bauhaus founders and masters such as Lyonel Feininger, Paul Klee and Walter Gropius, and the memories of different Bauhaus scholars, this film shows how Bauhaus revolutionized the form of art school and became a political and critical institution.
2019 marks the centenary of Bauhaus, a German art school that was famous for its approach to design. To mark its history and significance, this year's #DeutscherFilmklub theme is, "Bauhaus and beyond." You are cordially invited to the screening and the discussion afterwards.
Our Moderators
Christine Korte is an assistant in the Language Department at the Goethe-Institut Toronto. She is currently finishing her PhD in Communications and Culture at York University in Toronto. In her research and writing she focuses on contemporary theatre, politics and cultural life in Berlin.
Anna Heinemann is currently an intern in the Library and Information Department at the Goethe-Institut Toronto. She studies Comparative Literature in Berlin and works as an editorial assistant for Der Spiegel.
