The New Frankfurt

Join us this month for our #DeutscherFilmklub. We will be showing The New Frankfurt by Paul Wolff, Jonas Geist und Joachim Krausse.

After Ernst May was appointed head of the Frankfurt municipal planning and building control office in 1925, he assembled a team of young architects, planners and designers. With the extensive need for modern living design, but also a cost-effective building approach through standardized ground plans and building components, the use of local companies and the unemployed, The New Frankfurt distinguished itself as the most innovative major project of "new architecture" in the 1920s. This documentary edition compiles commentary of architects, designers and numerous first-time tenants of May’s housing projects.

2019 marks the centenary of Bauhaus, a German art school that was famous for its approach to design. To mark its history and significance, this year's #DeutscherFilmklub theme is, "Bauhaus and beyond." You are cordially invited to the screening and the discussion afterwards.

The film is in German with English subtitles. The event is free but space is limited, RSVP by emailing bib-toronto@goethe.de
