This month we will be showing Mountain Miracle by Tobias Wiemann in our #GermanFilmklub.

After an asthma attack, 13-year-old Amelie is sent by her parents to a special clinic in South Tyrol. Because the young Berliner is very stubborn, she does not let her parents or the doctors control her. Instead of being treated in the clinic, she simply leaves, fleeing to the mountains, where  she assumes nobody will find her there. In the middle of the Alps, she meets 15-year-old Bart. After the unexpected companion saves her life, she realizes that she likes him much more than she initially thought. Together they embark on a journey across the mountains, in  search of the traditional fire that promises healing.

The film was directed by Tobias Wiemann, born in 1981 in Greifswald. After apprenticing as a media designer, he worked as a cameraman, cutter and director. After some short films, he worked on major cinema productions for Til Schweiger's production company Barefoot Films from 2008 until 2013. He wrote the screenplay for the film Großstadtklein and subsequently directed it. In 2015, he made Von einem, der auszog, das Fürchten zu lernen. Mountain Miracle was his second feature film. The film was awarded the German Film Prize 2018 as Best Children's film.

Please note the film will be shown in German with English subtitles. Admission is free, but the number of seats is limited, so register at bib-toronto@goethe.de
