Projections on our windows

Human interaction and the use of space

Through the collaboration of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Goethe-Institut Montreal and fabrik Potsdam – Internationales Zentrum für Tanz und Bewegungskunst, choreographer Kihako Narisawa and dancer Sonoko Kamimura have received a residency in the studios of Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique. During their stay, they will be working on a new project entitled FIGURATIVE and based on the influence of our cultures of origin on verbal and nonverbal communication.

This project investigates the relation between the use of space and human interactions and questions how cultural codes and norms disrupt our use of space between humans and in which ways social systems push us to choose between verbal and non-verbal communication. These questions resonate with our actual present: How does social-distancing measures interfere with our ways to communicate? What ways do we have to communicate non-verbally if facial expressions are not easily to be understood due to us wearing masks?
