Goethe-Institut

A German-Cameroonian co-production by OTHNI and kainkollektiv from Bochum

The international theatre co-production “Fin de mission”, supported by Goethe-Institut, undertakes an aesthetic investigation into colonial roots and traces in Africa and highlights the neglected topic of slave trade in Cameroon. The play produced by the two theatre companies, OTHNI from Yaoundé and kainkollktiv from Bochum, is an extraordinary crossroads of acoustic universes stemming both  from the songs and laments of the African resistence and 17th century European classical opera, all rolled into the inexorable exploration of the issue of colonial domination in Cameroon and Africa at large. Out of this mixture emerges a musical theatre performance which exhumes our  legacy from the very depths of history, where it lay numb in a collective amnesia. A mission at the end of all missions, without a mission order. “Fin de mission” is the second joint production of OTHNI and kainkollektiv. Following the first performances in Mühlheim, Hamburg and Düsseldorf, the play will be performed at the theatre festival in Berlin, Berliner Theatertreffen, which is the most prestigious festival of its kind in the German-speaking world. For the first time ever, this German-Cameroonian opera(tion) in remembrance of slavery returns to its starting point, Cameroon.
