Film screenings UN

By Nabe Daone

The documentary film, “UN”, profiles one of the key figures of the struggle for independence in Cameroon: Um Nyobe. This is a great challenge for film director Nabe Daone, considering the complex nature of the life and times of Um Nyobe. The film features photographs of Um Nyobe with his comrades, audio tapes of his speeches, archives that were banned from broadcast at a certain period in time. Through interviews with Prof Ambroise Kom, activist Bergeline Domou, rapper Xzafrane, and blogger Florian Ngimbis, Nabe Daone reviews the socio-political and economic situation of Cameroon, which is facing various crises, 50 years down the line. By portraying Um Nyobe as the bridge between the past, the present and the future in this documentary, the director reviews the concepts of national unity, patriotism and how they are perceived within various layers of society.
