Dali, The Way Life Should Be

On November 23, 2013, the town of Dali made it onto the front page of the New York Times. In the article, the New York Times described the urbanites who had migrated to Dali as “environmental refugees.” The term, however, captures only part of the story, and not the most important one at that. Why has Dali, among all the towns and villages in the vast and unpolluted countryside of China, become a favorite landing spot? The answer lies below.
