Food is many things at once: a basic need, a crucial health factor, expression of identity, reflection of culture, a question of ethics (and a German city in the Ruhrgebiet). However, this is not what's on our minds when we're taking a bite of a pizza slice, pour a cup of tea or devour a bowl of noodle sloup. It is especially when we're far from home that we appreciate the merit of food and sharpen our culinary senses like nowhere else. It is in this change of perspectives where many of the stories by our Chinese and German authors originate, that we have have collected in this focus topic.
