Axel Scheffler

Axel Scheffler © Liam Jackson Axel Scheffler was born in Hamburg in 1957 and now lives as an illustrator in London. He studied art history in Hamburg and later graphic design in Corsham near Bath, England. Today Axel Scheffler is one of the most important illustrators of children's and youth books. His collaboration with the English author Julia Donaldson, with whom he developed the picture book "The Gruffalo", among others, is particularly successful. The two artists were awarded the renowned British Smarties Prize for this work.

Beside picture book illustrations, he also creates drawings for magazines and journals as well as for advertising.
