The Goethe-Institut Hongkong in cooperation with the German Information Library in Guangzhou present the exhibition “A House United: The Latest Comics and Graphic Novels in German”.
The exhibition “A House United” pays tribute to some of the best examples of a dynamic and vibrant comic scene in Germany. Literary adaptions, autobiographical and contemporary political stories go side-by-side with daily trivia, genre-type and caricatures. The high quality of artistic and narrative styles of the new German Comic scene can easily match up with those big comic-nations like France, the USA or Japan.
The exhibition was initiated by the Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and Beijing in collaboration with “Buchmesse Frankfurt” and curated by Andreas Platthaus (deputy head of the arts section of the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and Lars von Törne (Der Tagesspiegel: journalist, deputy editor of the Berlin desk and comic editor).
The exhibition aims to help change the way people look at German comics and graphic novels, a genre that often is not always recognized overseas. Instead, it presents an independent national comic culture that has its own history and own protagonists.
It exhibits political caricatures, action and crime comics as well as sophisticated comics by artists who stand up to any international comparison in the comic avant-garde.
Exhibition opening on 5. December 2017, 2:30 PM, followed by a Sharing Session with German Comic artist Franziska Walther
