Competition and Public Presentation Finale: German Language Olympics for Students 2018

The public finale of the first German Language Olympics for Students in Hong Kong and Macau will take place on 17 March at the Chinese University of Hong Kong under the theme "Digitized World - A Better World?".

A total of 53 students from universities and colleges in Hong Kong and Macau, who study German as their major or minor subject, or parallel to their studies, have registered to compete in the German Language Olympics in three proficiency divisions: A1, A2 and B1+. 15 participants successfully advanced from the preliminary round to the final round. Five finalists in each proficiency division will compete with each other on 17 March with a five-minute presentation on the theme "Digitized World - A Better World?".

Deutscholympiade für Studierende 2017/2018: Finalisten ©Goethe-Institut Hongkong The independent competition jury consists of representatives from the Goethe-Institut, the consulates of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the Lufthansa Group, as well as from the five universities. The evaluation criteria are the interpretation of the main theme in relation to the content, arguments and creativity according to each proficiency division. The "Olympic Champions" win scholarships for language courses at Goethe Institutes and a university in Germany. All 15 finalists will receive a Swatch watch sponsored by the Swiss Consulate General and Presence Switzerland as well as gifts from the organizers.

During registration and the breaks of the final, the Goethe-Institut, the DAAD, the five Hong Kong universities as well as the consulates general of Germany, Austria and Switzerland will present their offers at information stands. Visitors can win attractive prizes at games. Following the award ceremony, all participants and guests are invited to a reception with German food and drinks.

All participants of the German Language Olympics, German students and teachers, as well as friends and families of the finalists are cordially invited to the event.
