To commemorate the 250th birthday of Alexander von Humboldt (September 14, 1769 – May 6, 1859), the Humboldt Forum, in Berlin, together with the Goethe-Institut, is organizing a party open to the public on September 13th and 14th, 2019, with participating artists and researchers form Berlin, Bogota, Lima, London, Mexico City, Novosibirsk, Potsdam, Quito and the Amazon region. In this context, the Humboldt magazine – Cosmo, in its special edition "250 years without aging!" is publishing interviews, photos and essays related to the event.​

Tejidos Conectivos

During the thematic year Humboldt y las Américas, Experimenta/Sur was an integral part of the exhibition The Nature of Things: Humboldt, Comings and Goings and brought artists, academics and scientists from Latin America, Germany and the USA together around the concept for the tejidos conectivos (connective tissue) project.

Humboldt 360 degrees: An expedition through Latin America

In four episodes, the film takes on Humboldt’s precise way of looking at the world as a cultural scientist, ethnologist and critic of colonialism, racism and exploitation, showing the image of Latin America that people travelling nd there today. The journey stops along the way at Cartagena, Bogotá, Quito and the Chimborazo.


VR Stations:
Humboldt Hackatón de realidad mixta

In mixed reality jams in Bogotá, Lima and Mexico City about 100 artists, VR developers and Humboldt enthusiasts came together to translate Humboldt‘s South American journey into virtual and augmented reality experiences. A jury consisting of local and international experts selected a team from each city to present its application in the Humboldt Forum.

On Saturday, September 14th, the global on-line debate “Humboldt Connection” took place in Berlin, for the occasion of the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt’s 250th birthday, and included the event “Humboldt: 250 years young!”, organized by the Goethe-Institut in partnership with Deutsche Welle and with the Humboldt Forum: live on several streaming channels with partners in Berlin, Novosibirsk and Bogotá.

The Foundation Humboldt Forum joins forces with the Goethe-Institut to stage a two-day festival on 13 and 14 September 2019. With contribuitions from Berlin, Bogotá, Lima, London, Mexico City, Novosibirsk, Potsdam, Quito and the Amazon Region, among others.
