Drama // 125 minutes // 2019 // Directed by: Nora Fingscheidt

It is very hard to control Benni. She is a "system crasher", a child who radically breaks any rules and consistently rejects any kind of imposed structures. System crashers also tend to slip through the cracks of the German child and youth welfare services. Wherever Benni is admitted, she is soon thrown out again. And that is exactly her goal, as she longs to be close to her mother, who is, however, completely overwhelmed by her daughter’s unpredictable behaviour. This film testifies to the fervent yearning of a child for security and love.

"System crasher is the marvel of this Berlinale!" writes die WELT. With great casting, Helena Zengel, lends Benni's expressive fury a delicate face. System crasher was screened at numerous festivals, following Berlinale, where it received multiple awards. Among them are the 23rd Sofia International Film Festival, where it received the Award for Best Director, the Molodist – 47th International Film Festival Kiev, where it received the Award of the Ecumenical Jury as well as the 30th International Film Festival Emden-Norderney, where it received two further awards. At the Berlinale this film was screened in the Competition Section and received the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Award.

Nora Fingscheidt completed her studies in Scenic Direction at the Baden-Würtemberg Film Academy. She completed this with the documentary Without this World (Ohne diese Welt) , which won the Documentary Film Award at the Max Ophüls Film Festival, as well as the First Steps Award. However, she had already attracted attention for her documentary and short films Near the Railroads (Das Haus neben den Gleisen), Syncope (Synkope), and Entre les lignes (Zwischen den Zeilen). In her debut feature film System crasher (Systemsprenger) she not only directed, but also wrote the script. She received awards for the script before the production of the film. System crasher (Systemsprenger) won a Silver Bear at the Berlinale and was nominated as the German entry for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars.
