Adventure playground in the vineyards.

Edenkoben is a small town in the Palatinate region that has kept its tradition without being old-fashioned: Vineyards as far as the eye can see and the Palatinate Forest on the doorstep offer a range of options to experience the countryside. The Edenkoben Sports School has a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Participants of the Goethe-Institut language camp will find romantic castles and palaces all over the area, but also famous places like the world-renowned university city of Heidelberg

Learning German in the countryside

The summer camps of the Goethe-Institut in Edenkoben are housed in the sports school of the Southwest German Soccer Association, which was built on a hillside with a stunning view. Above the sports school is the Villa Ludwigshöhe, once the summer residence of the Bavarian King Ludwig I, and the Rietburg, a robber baron's castle built around 1200.

In these scenic surroundings, learning German is much more fun. With 28 hours of lessons per week, our students can experience great progress in their German language skills in a short time. For three weeks, the participants of our summer camp live in 2- or 3-bed rooms with shower and bathroom, together with young people from all over the world. Here, friendships are started that can easily span the globe.

Because we are in a sports school, we can offer our students two outdoor soccer fields, a sports hall, a gymnastics room with a mirrored wall, two indoor swimming pools and a regular gym. Both diligent learning and plenty of sports consume a lot of energy, therefore we serve three meals a day, with a vegetarian option at each meal.

Historical Palatinate

The area around Edenkoben is littered with historical places apart from the Villa Ludwigshöhe and the Rietburg. Very close by is the Hambach Palace, a center of the German democracy movement in the 19th century. Also nearby is the stunning Trifels Castle high on a rock, where Emperor Barbarossa once lived and where King Richard the Lionheart of England was imprisoned.

Excursions to the surrounding towns and cities give the participants the opportunity to try out their newly acquired language skills. Whether Mannheim and the world's largest chemical plant or Heidelberg and Heidelberg Castle, whether the Technical Museum and Cathedral in Speyer or bowling in Landau, the students at the German summer camp get to see a lot. Then there is the Palatinate Forest Nature Park, the largest forest area in Germany, with many mountains and valleys where you can hike or ride a mountain bike. Edenkoben is right in the middle of it all.

After three weeks, the participants of our youth summer camp have not only learned a lot of German, but also have many stories to tell from this beautiful part of Germany.

“We manage to get along with each other on the courses in a peaceful, happy and tolerant manner – so you think to yourself: it's not that difficult and it must be possible for the rest of the world to manage!”
