Tuukka Haapakorpi (FI)
The second Finnish guest was multidisciplinary artist Tuukka Haapakorpi. The Finn was artist-in-residence at Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei from February to April 2019.
Haapakorpi graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts with a Master of Fine Arts. He works primarily with visual art, video, sound, music, and since recently video-game design. Generally speaking over the last few years he has occupied himself on an intensive basis with digital technology.
Haapakorpi’s works and performance pieces have formed components of various exhibitions, biennials, and festivals. While the majority of these appearences have been in Finland, his work has also featured in Sweden, Norway, Germany, England, Switzerland and Iraq.
During his studies, Haapakorpi learnt traditional printing techniques, whereby both the method and the visual expression of the produced pieces fascinated him. That is why he during his time in Leipzig especially enjoyed the cooperation with "Atelier für Radierung Maria und Vlado Ondrej".
It is Haapakorpi’s dream to make unique hand-crafted graphic works available digitally and open new worlds to viewers through this process.
