Bjargey Olafsdottir – a multidisciplinary artist – will represent Iceland during the second residence period in Leipzig.

The Icelander‘s educational background is widespread; she has studied at various universities in the Nordics as well as in Spain, where her studies were concerned with film, photography, mixed-media, painting, design and lastly creative writing at the University of Iceland.

Olafsdottir has already presented her works in both numerous individual and collective exhibitions. Her works can be seen in museums in Iceland, Denmark, Spain and Sweden. Her films have been shown at festivals primarily in Europe, but also in the USA and Australia.

Interestingly in the artistic production of Olafsdottir’s work, the choice of materials is steered by ideas and concepts. Her practice is versatile and emcompasses the use of photography, film, sound art, performance, draughtsmanship, and written text. The works are for the most part narrative, they deal with human relationships. Olafsdottir finds her inspiration in pop culture and her own memories: from here the result is often poetic and playful with a sense of humour.
