Als Teil der LOLA-Filmreihe „…and the winners are…“, die das Goethe-Institut Kairo vom 3.-6. November besucht, laden wir junge Filmschaffende zu zwei Workshoptagen mit K.S. Elias, dem Komponisten der Filmmusik von Of fathers and Sons, ein. In einer Vorlesung führt K.S. Elias interessierte Filmschaffende in seine Arbeit als preisgekrönter Komponist ein. Zum Thema „Musik im Film“ gibt er am zweiten Tag eine Masterclass, in welcher ihm junge Filmschaffende und Komponisten ihre Projekte vorstellen können.   

The Goethe-Institut Cairo proudly welcomes award-winning composer K.S. Elias for a masterclass and introductory lecture on his work. We invite filmmakers to join him for the lecture on Sunday, 3rd November and for the masterclass, specifically for composers and those interested in making film music, on Monday, 4th November. Both events will be held in English, starting at 11 am and finishing at 4pm.

If you would like to attend the lecture, please tell us about your interest in film and film music, and what you hope to get out of these workshops. If you would like to do both the introductory workshop and the masterclass, we will require you to attach samples of your previous work by the 31th October.

Karim S. Elias studied from 1992 to 1998 at the Folkwang University of the Arts. He composed and produced the score for over 100 movies, television films and documentaries and over 400 television episodes. Including the music for the award-winning feature film “Rhythm is it!” which was awarded for the GERMAN and BAVARIAN FILM AWARDS.

In 2013, K.S. Elias was appointed Professor for “Composition and Arrangement for Media” in the master film music program at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. In co-operation with the Deutsche Filmakademie, it’s “Wissensportal vierundzwanzig” and the Filmuniversität Babelsberg, he initiated a filmed masterclass in 2017.

K.S. Elias composed the music for the Oscar nominated documentary feature Of Fathers and Sons. In addition to being nominated for the 2019 Academy Award as Best Documentary Feature, the film is also nominated for the Independent Spirit Award 2019 as Best Documentary Feature. It received the World Documentary Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Festival 2018. So far, the film has been screen at over 100 film festivals and has received more than 30 awards. Of Fathers and Sons is currently travelling to different Goethe-Instituts around the world and being screened alongside a selection of films that received the German LOLA film prize 2019.
