The Art of Waste

The Art of Waste

Several factors render Nouakchott a city of great ecological tensions, including the deficient waste management industry. To counteract this problem, the project aims at enhancing the capacities of plastic recycling in the city, while encouraging young Mauritanians to become key environmental actors of the future.

This project comprises activities to raise environmental awareness and to create spaces for the application of modern technologies: Using 3D printers, tools and other objects are produced from recycled plastics in order to tickle the creativity of children and youth and to instil in them a sense of responsibility for the environment. Those products may subsequently decorate the sustainable parks and green areas of the Sebkha Commune, creating more dynamic environments. Efforts to sensitise young people to the significance of climate change and social engagement within their Commune accompany the project’s recycling activities.

The project is implemented by Diarra Sylla of the association InnovRIM.
