Plan International was established in Egypt in 1981, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity. Today, Plan International Egypt works with more than 40 Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Greater Cairo, Giza, Kalubiya, Alexandria, Beheira, Damietta, Sohag, Quena and Assiut with over 40,000 child development partners. Plan crew comprises 200 members emphasizing child development programs in collaborative partnership with the government, the private sector and the civil society.

They work on the following:

  • Protection and Participation of Children: mobilize communities to include and support the protection, participation, and development of children, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable, such as street and working children and children with disabilities. Local organizations are strengthened to work with the least advantaged and to link with institutional stakeholders as duty bearers to provide services.
  • Girls' and Women's Empowerment: promote gender equity in communities and increase collective capacity of girls and women to address their issues and participate in community decisions; increase influence and access to services; and identify discriminatory practices toward girls and women.
  • Youth Development and Leadership: build confidence and capacity of youth as key actors in community development and encourage them to become active, responsible citizens. Child and Youth Organizations strengthen youths' capacity for collective action to address both their issues and the community issues. Non-formal education and employability services are strengthened.
  • Participation of Civil Society in Alliance with Private and Government Institutions: strengthen local organizations and unite them to address community-level issues and protect the rights of all. Community Development Associations (CDAs) are supported to mobilize government and private sector resources
