Dorek Initiative was launched in 2014 in Qena to initiate a discussion on women's issues in Upper Egypt, such as the right to education, the right to choose one's spouse (anti-tribal marriage), and the right to inheritance. A number of activities were held, such as storytelling workshops for girls, writing workshops, and legal awareness workshops about the shortcomings of the Personal Status Law.
