CHEWATACON 2021
The Ethiopian Gaming Festival, CHEWATACON, is the first festival of its kind that aims to celebrate Ethiopian gaming culture and explore the dimensions of games, gaming in the local context and beyond. Held for a full month in October, the festival invited all gamers, game-based media designers, game innovators, developers, hubs, publishers, game show producers, business and social partners, government officials, consumers, communities and business owners, and other game-based creatives to come together and create a virtual mega-game house for five weeks.

Chewatacon celebrated gaming and promoted the Ethiopian gaming ecosystem to create a stronger, synergistic and self-sustaining creative industry.

What is the festival about?
- Deconstructing the components of play, games, engagement, joy, and proactive living and working on the imagination
- Bringing together stakeholders from Ethiopia, Africa and beyond who are engaged with the ecosystem and the games industry
- Exploring the potential of games in a different context
- Recognizing achievements in the field of games
