Multilingualism in the library

The Goethe-Institut Finnland issued an open call for two projects that address the following question: How can library space and media be redesigned and rethought around a significant theme for today?

The first of the selected projects deals with multilingualism in children's literature and wants to bring the topic to library visitors in a variety of ways. Books will be presented that deal with multilingualism and have a wide range of stories. How can multilingualism be supported and how is it reflected in today's Finnish and German children's literature?

From 26 September to 4 November 2022, the project will bring exciting events for the whole family to our library. The programme includes Kamishibai workshops for kindergarten groups and a family afternoon with multilingual readings.

A colourful reading corner and reading hut for children will be built in collaboration with illustrator Réka Kiraly, Etana Editions and the Multilingual Library. Children can participate in a wide range of reading activities and tasks to earn a multilingual reading diploma.

The projects is conceptualised by Julia Kartesalo, a cultural researcher working on exhibitions and art education.
