A queerfeminist fat-empowerment workshop, FemF 2016

Fat-shaming is still a thing – even in queer and feminist communities that promote body-positivity and oppose patriarchal and euro-centric beauty standards. Chubby and fat folx get pathologized, stigmatized, excluded, shamed and blamed for their bodies. What does discrimination of fat people look like? How does it intersect with gender, desire, race and class? What strategies can we find to empower ourselves from structures that dehumanize and sanction us because of our bodies? How can we heal in a neoliberal and capitalist society that measures your worth on your body? This workshop opens a space for empowerment and healing. Everyone who experienced or experiences fat-shaming is welcome to join.

Maximum number of participants: 15 - 17. Please be on time so we can have a calm atmosphere. No arrivals later than 10 minutes unless previously agreed with the organizer. The workshop takes 3 - 4 hours. Language: English.

Hengameh Yaghoobifarah is a freelance writer, speaker, blogger, activist, DJ and editor at Missy Magazine. They mostly write about body politics, anti-racism, queer feminism, popular culture and fashion. They are based in Berlin.
