Carol Pires Photo: Rodrigo Levino Carol Pires has a master in Latin American Studies from Columbia University and is a contributing op-ed writer for The New York Times en Español. Her writing can be seen at magazines like Piauí magazine (Brazil), Etiqueta Negra (Peru), Gatopardo (México), El Malpensante (Colômbia), and Internazionale (Italy). 

El Viejo Tupamaro, the profile she wrote about José Mujica, in 2013, was published as an e-book by the Spanish publishing house e-Cícero and is part of the collection Atención: Die besten Reportagen aus Lateinamerika, by the Austrian publishing house Czernin. In Brazil, the reporter-at-large Os 43 que faltam, about the disappearance of 43 students in Ayotiznapa, México, was published in the book Tempos Instáveis, by Companhia das Letras.  

She is co-writer of The Edge of Democracy, a documentary about the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff and the arrest of Lula, both former Brazilian presidents, to be launched this year by Netflix.
