Brexit is a subject that in the last year has dominated like no other and divided the people of Great Britain. From a German perspective, the personal thoughts are certainly very hard to comprehend and even harder to empathise with. I wanted to use this situation to examine the issue of British national identity from an external perspective and to present it photographically.

My series deals with daily life with its many facets and contrasts. It shows the diversity of the general public as well as the controversies, and tries to understand that, in spite of the political changes, daily life has the nerve to simply carry on. It is a reflection of the here and now in a country with an unsettled and uncertain future and, well away from the European self-perception, leaves unanswered the question of how sensible this step appears.
