Grants for German teachers
for professional development seminars in Germany 2025
The Goethe-Institut in the UK is offering several scholarships for German teachers to attend professional development seminars in Germany for one or more weeks in 2025.

- The courses will take place at five selected Goethe-Instituts in Germany: Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Munich and Schwäbisch Hall.
- Language training for primary and secondary school teachers
- Teaching language: Methodology and didactics – suitable for those who want to refresh their knowledge
- Distance learning courses in methodology and didactics – for those who are unable to travel to Germany
These courses last between 1 and 3 weeks. You will receive seminar documents, teaching aids and materials you can use in your lessons.
Benefits of the scholarship include
- Accommodation with breakfast
- One meal on course days
- seminar costs such as health, accident and liability insurance
- travel allowance (only for courses lasting several weeks) of 200 Euros. The travel allowance will only be paid on-site in Germany.
- You are a teacher of German as a foreign language or are involved in the teacher training of such teachers; this also applies if you work at a PASCH school.
- You will be working as a DaF teacher or a trainer of DaF teachers in the coming years.
- You are willing to pass on what you learn in the seminar to your colleagues at home.
- You have the necessary prior German-language skills for the type of seminar you wish to attend.
- You are prepared to take part in the entire seminar, including the cultural program.
- You can state that you are available for the dates of all of the desired seminars you indicate.
- You confirm that you have been informed and understand that it is generally not possible to prioritize your three desired seminars.
- You acknowledge that participants are strongly advised against bringing family members and friends to the seminar, as participants are expected to be fully committed to the seminar. In such cases, the Goethe-Institut will not provide any organizational assistance or help with insurance matters.
- You acknowledge that we advise against participating in a seminar during a pregnancy to avoid the risk of complications for which no insurance coverage is available.
- You acknowledge that you are not permitted to bring pets with you.
- In addition, for an MDO distance learning course: You have solid PC and internet skills and have regular access to a high-speed internet connection at home or at work.

Please apply by October, 31st 2024 at the latest.
- haven't received a scholarship from the Goethe-Institut within the last 4 years
- will be working as a teacher or teacher trainer in the next few years.
- You should also be prepared to pass on your experience of the course to other colleagues.
- Applications need to be accompanied by a letter from either the Head Teacher or the Head of Modern Foreign Languages outlining school plans to promote German as a modern foreign language.

You can apply directly to the Goethe-Institut when you are paying for your own costs.
