Film adaptation of Benedict Well's debut novel

Robert Beck is a frustrated music teacher and former musician. He teaches at the grammar school he attended himself and where his father was deputy headmaster. The students bore him and the feeling is mutual. But then he discovers 17-year-old Rauli, a real musical prodigy: Not only is the young Latvian a marvelous guitar player, he is also a gifted singer and composer.

Robert decides to get Rauli a shot at stardom and a record deal. But then his girlfriend Lara announces that she wants to go to Rome to study, and his best friend Charlie needs his company on a trip to Istanbul. Acting on an impulse, Beck takes his new protégé Rauli along for an eventful drive from Munich through Eastern Europe to Istanbul.
