Join us on the 26th of March for a special instalment of this semester's Translator's Stammtisch.

We are delighted that Professor Siân Reynolds, Professor Emerita of French at the University of Stirling, will hold a talk during this month's session.

Professor Siân Reynolds was born in Cardiff and has lived in Scotland since 1980. She read Modern Languages at university, has a doctorate in History from the University of Paris, and does research on French and Scottish history. Her latest publication is as co-editor of the New Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women (EUP 2018).

As a translator, in the 1970s and 1980s Professor Reynolds mostly specialized in social science and history, including works by French historians Fernand Braudel and Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie. She sat on the committee of the Translators Association (Society of Authors) for 3 years, when the issues included getting copyright and royalties written into translators' contracts. Since taking early retirement as Professor of French at Stirling University, she has mostly translated French fiction/crime fiction. She is on the Penguin team translating the works of Georges Simenon, and has also translated most of Fred Vargas's novels and two by Virginie Despentes.  Professor Reynolds is currently editor of the English online edition of the French academic journal Clio: Femmes, Genre, Histoire, i.e. she commissions and edits translations of articles into English (history and social science).
