Building on the success of its inaugural edition, German Week returns with a renewed focus on promoting German language and culture in schools nationwide. Organised by the Goethe-Institut UK, the programme will feature engaging activities such as a virtual live German Club session and a theatre festival, offering pupils meaningful opportunities to explore German in creative and educational ways.

Webinar: Where Will Languages Take Me?

As part of Languages Week Scotland, the Goethe-Institut is joining the British Council Scotland, the Institut Français d'Écosse and the Consejería de Educación to host a 'Where will languages take me' webinar.
During the live webinar, invited guests will share their inspiring language stories with pupils. A Q&A with pupils will follow speaker sessions.

As part of our vibrant German Week, the Goethe-Institut and St. Paul’s School are thrilled to invite you to participate in our German Theatre Festival! Teachers can sign up with a group of maximum 8 students to perform an extract from an existing play or a self-devised piece in German, with a maximum running time of 10 minutes.

German Teachers’ Day for Secondary School Teachers

This day focuses on teaching German in heterogeneous and diverse classrooms, where learners of different ages, abilities, andproficiencylevels come together in one shared learning space. It invites participants to explore how diverse learner needs can be addressed in flexible and creative ways. Using familiar classroom situations, the day offers inspiration and practical ideas for teaching confidently in increasingly large and varied groups.

Gimagine Award – Now an Approved Activity Provider with the DofE!

Great news: The Friends of the Goethe-Institut UK have become an Approved Activity Provider with the DofE, offering German as a skill via the Gimagine Award. Since September, participants have been able to register directly with FGI UK and complete their entire skills section (including the assessment) in one go!

The IDO is coming to Mannheim in 2026!

IDO 2026: The International Deutscholympiade is back!

This international German language-learning competition brings together participants from around the world. We invite enthusiastic teenage learners of German in Great Britain to take part in the national preliminary round. The motto for IDO 2026 in Mannheim is ZusammenWachsen (Growing Together). The winners who will represent Great Britain in the finals in Mannheim will be announced on 13 February.
