VR workshop with Mika Johnson on creating personalised VR content

The Goethe-Institut in London is happy to announce that Mika Johnson, director of the Goethe-Institut’s VR installation “Die VRwandlung”, using Franz Kafka’s classic tale “Die Verwandlung”, will host two workshops on 13 November and 14 November from 2-6pm at the Goethe-Institut in London. The aim is to create VR content on personal project ideas.

We welcome young learners of German and their teachers to attend one of the workshops hosted exclusively by the Goethe-Institut, London.
The workshops are suitable for students from 15 years onwards and will be held in English.

Mika will host a workshop discussing how audiences worldwide have responded to this project and how VR, in general, can be used as a powerful tool to not only adapt pre-existing stories but also to invent new ones.
The workshop will consider the following questions:
What makes a great VR, AR, or MR piece? How long does it take and how much does it cost to create such experiences? Furthermore, how many people must be involved and what skill sets are necessary?
Participants will also be asked to conceive their own project, either individually or in teams, which they will present at the end of the workshop.

General Programme
  1. Creating a VR experience: Making an exhibition, with a ritualized context, versus a stand alone VR headset
  2. Beginnings, Middles, and Endings in VR
  3. Practical aspects: Costs of and funding for VR projects
  4. Non-hierarchical approach: Working with programmers, sound designers, composers, visual artists etc.
  5. Initial budget vs. the real costs: People and support
  6. Making a VR piece: Guidelines and examples
  7. Considerations: 360 video vs. VR and AR
  8. Brainstorming your own stories
  9. Creating a rough proposal for a VR or AR project
  10. Group presentations / pitches

Participation is offered free of charge, but due to the limited number of participants (minimum 6 participants per workshop, if the number is lower, participants might have to be asked to participate in a workshop on the respective other day), registration is essential.

Please note: The workshops are booked out, registration is no longer possible!
