Competition International German Olympics

We are happy to welcome the German Olympics for schools worldwide to the United Kingdom in 2016 for the first time. The final will take place in Berlin, 17 to 30 July 2016 - 65 countries from all around the world will take part. The United Kingdom are eligible to send two secondary school students born 1997 to 2002. The German Olympics - the biggest competition for the German language - promotes young people from all around the world to encounter one another thanks to the fact they all study German. They will become friends and build up an international network.

How you can take part:

To take part in the national preliminary decision on 22 April 2016 (10 to 5 pm, we will only invite the best candidates/videos) at the Goethe-Institut London, we ask you to produce a two minute video. The following questions need to be answered:
  • Why do you want to take part in the International German Olympics?
  • What do you like about Germany?
  • There are theatre productions in German, projects in German, exhibitions in German and many more: Which activities do you like most?
  • What (thing/fact/example) unites us in Europe?
  • What is your favourite German word?

Framework:
  • Video shall not exceed 2 min
  • Only one video per student is allowed
  • All questions need to be answered
  • Students born 1997 - 2002
  • Feel free to be creative
  • Language which is used: GERMAN
On the day of the national preliminary decision we will provide different tasks for the students and test their language skills and creativity. We look forward to meeting the students! Lunch will be provided.

Furthermore:

Students who spent more than 6 months in Germany are not allowed to take part in the competition

Deadline:

Upload the video on youtube and send us the link until Thursday, 31 March 2016. Furthermore, we require the following information of you:
  • Surname, name
  • Date of birth
  • Email of participant
  • Email of school
  • Name of teacher
  • Email of teacher
