For his first solo exhibition in a British institution, German artist Michael Beutler conceives a site-specific installation which draws upon Spike Island’s architecture and broader social context, responding to the building’s current use as a gallery and artists’ studio complex, and to its historic use as a tea packing factory.
As with two of his most recent exhibitions, Haus Beutler at Bielefelder Kunstverein (2014) and La Loge, Brussels (2014–2015), and Moby Dick, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2015), Beutler’s installation at Spike Island includes models, material studies, photo and video documentations as well as fragments of earlier projects.
