Co-commissioned by the Goethe-Institut London in association with Culture+Conflict for Promised Land

As a central part of the event series Promised LandNikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen, in collaboration with Duncan Pickstock, has been commissioned to create a new piece of work responding to and reflecting on the theme. Titled Quicksand, the audio installation will be premiered at the Promised Land symposium in December, and subsequently shown as a further developed piece at Hull City of Culture in spring 2017 in the central exhibition curated by Film & Video Umbrella. 

Quicksand is commissioned by the Goethe-Institut London in association with Culture+Conflict for the event series Promised Land, and has been generously supported by the Danish Arts Council, the Danish Embassy and the Elephant Trust.

For more than a decade he has been working in a variety of media and materials to create visual responses to challenges within today’s society. Migration and disempowerment are some of his main areas of research.

Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen’s work is represented in public and private collections in Denmark, England, France, Greece, Holland, Italy, Norway, Peru, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and United States - including Museum of London, England, Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE and Kunsten - Museum of Modern Art, Denmark, and the Isabelle & Jean-Conrad Lemaitre Video Collection, Paris, France.
