Progress for ALL

Please come and visit the stand of the Goethe-Institut (number 7 & 8) at the ALL Language World 2017!

Language World is the annual conference and CPD event of the Association for Language Learning. The title of Language World 2017 is Progress for ALL. Progress for ALL is a deliberately broad title, as we aim to serve the needs of all conference delegates. For example, we aim to include sessions on promoting progress in all aspects of pupils’ learning of languages, ensuring progression in curriculum planning, sustaining progress in curriculum leadership and celebrating progress in building a culture of language learning in a school. It is a highlight of the year for languages education and attracts up to 250 participants a day from across all educational sectors, with a large number coming from primary and secondary schools.

In addition to a variety of stands there will be plenty of very interesting talks and workshops. Topics will include but are not limited to learning and teaching languages.

Besides our stand, the Goethe-Institut will also be presenting the following workshops:

Friday, 24 March 2017:

15:00 – 15:45 Secondary German Show & Tell
The focus will be ‘show and tells’, with a number of participants presenting good teaching ideas or demonstrating activities as used by pupils. This session will be convened in German and invited contributors will share classroom ideas and resources in German. Your opportunity as a delegate at Language World to immerse yourself in the target language.

16:25 – 17:10 The Language Magician
We will report on the milestones achieved in this international Erasmus+ project to develop an assessment tool for primary learners of languages. Results of the intensive research connected to the piloting of the game will be explained as well as plans for the game’s future introduction to schools in the UK.

Saturday, 25 March 2017:

12:00 - 12:45 The Language Magician: Developing an assessment tool for young learners in the format of a computer game
Knowing about students’ strengths and weaknesses, but avoiding tests and marking! The session will introduce a new assessment tool for European languages in primary schools, giving an overview of developments thus far, explaining the game’s content and talking about the plans for its future use in British schools.
