Talk Paul MacAlindin: The Story of the National Youth Orchestra of Iraq

Talk with Paul MacAlindin followed by Q&A

Due to unforeseen circumstances this event had to be postponed from April to this new date in May.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The extraordinary story of the National Youth Orchestra of Iraq is told by Scottish conductor Paul MacAlindin who was inspired by the audacity of a young woman's idea to create an orchestra in the most difficult and dangerous of times. His book, Upbeat talks about his role in producing fine music not only in Iraq but also touring the orchestra to Germany, France and to a homecoming concert at the Edinburgh Festival. A beacon of hope and achievement the NYOI helped the young musicians and their tutors build bridges across their own ethnic and cultural divisions and the book has a profound and uplifting message about the power of music and how resourcefulness and determination can lead to great achievement.

Paul MacAlindin discovered from an early age that he loved being an artist leading artists. As a musician, dancer and all-round performer, he found his voice through conducting, a passionate journey that has led him to work with orchestras and ensembles all over the world, from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra to the Armenian Philharmonic to the Düsseldorf Symphoniker.
