Study Day German Film Approaches: a GCSE Study Day

This event is intended for teachers and students only.
This interactive event is conducted mainly in German and has been designed with the ‘Media’ aspect of the German specifications in mind in order to assist students with their understanding of film to aid their preparation for the written exam paper. The morning clip-based presentation will focus on a few short films such as Schwarzfahrer, and clips from suitable feature films such as Der Tunnel and Das Leben der Anderen; while film terminology will be explained and demonstrated through textual analysis. All of which can then be utilised in their examination writing. Current and historical social issues raised by the films will also be discussed encouraging students to broaden their understanding of German culture. There will be an introduced afternoon screening of a suitable sub-titled feature film like Das schreckliche Mädchen followed by a Q&A. Teachers attending this event will be given resources to enable them to build on the case studies from the event back in the classroom.
