A Double-Voiced Bird
This workshop led by poets Ulrike Almut Sandig (German, English) and Hinemoana Baker (Māori, English), explores the possibilities of multiple languages in poetry, on stage, coming from several directions and in different voices; one by one, all at once, sometimes translating, sometimes not. There are so many possibilities and permutations when we break out of the more orthodox ways translation is presented in the performance of poetry. Experiments welcome. Come with some lines you like, your own or someone else's. Be ready to fling some sounds around --- in whichever tongue you prefer --- at the post-workshop performance.

Maud Vanhauwert is a Flemish performance poet who’s been known to combine poetry with magic tricks and video. We can’t promise magic today, but nonetheless, come prepared to be surprised!
Ulrike Almut Sandig and Hinemoana Baker have created a performance which blends languages and artforms, switching between English, Maori and German, poetry and music. Through the interplay of different languages, they unpick and reimagine the opportunities translation presents when brought onto the stage.
