Birmingham’s Flatpack Festival is venturing back into cinemas, venues and gardens. Taking place from 23-26 September, Flatpack Festival: Autumn Edition will have plenty in store, from otherworldly audio visual performance to live improvised jazz paired with classic family shorts to extraordinary films in beautiful surroundings. The Festival kicks off its first ever autumn edition with three audiovisual performances that stimulate the senses.

We are pleased to support Berlin-based visual musician Tarik Barri and interdisciplinary artist Lea Fabrikant’s latest collaboration: ‘Zo live’ incorporates an intricate system of pre-recorded AV loops, MIDI triggers and creative programming to create a virtual universe of sound and light in real time, exploring this universe in hypnotic, improvised performances. Barri has collaborated with Radiohead, Atoms for Peace, Sote, Nicolas Jaar, Monolake and others and has recently toured as part of a trio with Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich.

Also performing that evening will be AV artist Paul Prudence, who explores the way in which music, space and form can be intertwined to create cinematic and visual / musical experiences. He will be performing his revered piece Cyclotone, inspired to commemorate the first wave of Russian cosmonauts who conquered space physically and also the artists of the Constructivist movement who conquered space conceptually.

And the third act that evening is Zach Walker whose fascination with cymatics (speaker vibrations causing materials and liquids to pulsate) will be expressed through live camera feeds, lasers, hazers, LED pixel mapping & space-flooding projections. The soundscape is driven by the frequencies which create the mesmerising visuals and is layered with oral histories, field recordings, samples and Zach’s own ventures into music.
