One Woman Theatre to premiere at Goethe-Institut
A solo performance by Germany based Ghanaian actress Gifty Wiafe will on Friday, September 1, be premiered at the Goethe-Institut in Accra.
Titled “It’s in the Blood”, the play is the result of an eighteen month collaboration between Tete Adehyemma Dance Theatre (Ghana) and Cactus Junges Theater (Germany).
A prolific actress, Wiafe fills the stage with a unique and mesmerizing blend of humour, dance, music and storytelling. A modern intermediary between cultures and continents, the actress takes the audience on a roller-coaster of a journey.
She touches on many issues of universal relevance and interest, connecting the dots from deeply personal life events to questions of migration, culture and national identity, individual and corporate greed, environmental challenges, male and female viewpoints among others.
The audience is invited to “walk a mile in another person’s shoes” and experience the transformative power of the arts when it comes to imagining and creating a world where “other-ness” and diversity are no longer feared but celebrated.
Other venues slated to host the performance this September are School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana (Legon - 7th / 8th), Haduwa Bamboo Theatre (Apam - 12th), Wesley Girls Senior High School (Kumasi - 16th / 17th), Holy Cross Parish (Tamale - 19th / 20th), Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral (Yendi - 22nd / 23rd) and Goldfields School Complex (Tarkwa - 26th).
The production, which returns to the Goethe-Institut in Accra on Friday September 29, is being directed by Barbara Kemmler with Petra Kindler (script writer), Frank Sam (choreographer) and Henry Nyadiah (lighting / sound).
It is being supported by Cactus Junges Theatre (Germany), Sisimbom and Goethe-Institut Ghana.
