Panel 5: "...Better off in the Bush": On Slavery, Colonialism and the Truncation of development in Africa"

That the domination of the African psyche via slavery and colonialism, wrecked a lot of havoc on the potential of the continent’s developmental aspirations cannot be disputed. What, for instance, would have become of Africa’s great traditions of adobe, wood or stone architecture, had the colonialist intrusions and truncation in the so-called ‘natural’ evolution of Africa not taken place? What can we learn from the ‘ancient’ traditions for future projects in the face of technological advancement in the construction industry?
