Das Leben der Anderen

Director - Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, 137 Minutes - Germany 2006

The Oscar winning film depicts the East German cultural scene in the mid-1980s through the life of an artist couple. Georg (playwright) and Christa-Maria (actress) who are apparently untouched by politics are invaded by the state. Minister Hempf sets the Stasi (State Security) on Georg and wants him out of the way because he has fallen in love with Christa-Maria. But the longer the wiretap specialist Wiesler deals with the couple, the more his loyalty to the state is tested.
