Laura Eckert

Laura Eckert Foto © Laura Eckert Laura Eckert (born 1983) lives and works in Leipzig. She studied at the sculpture department of Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle and received her diploma in 2011.

In her work Eckert investigates the human body and its structural penetration through society and psychology. Her newest works deal with a rather utopian approach and the possibility of bodies in the future.

She works with wood, stone, bronze and ceramics. "I use found materials: old floor boards, old planks, rubble from the quarry, and so re-interpret this material. This recycling aspect is important to me, that the material already had a life and is assembled into something new."

Eckert has regular shows in galleries and museums all over Europe. Her first institutional solo show was at the Drents Museum in Assen in 2015, followed by a solo show at Museen Boettcherstraße in Bremen in 2016. Another solo show took place at Kunstverein Lippe, Detmold in 2018. She received several grants by Kulturstiftung Sachsen, Stiftung Kunstfond and VG Bildkunst.

Her works are part of the private and public collections in Europe and abroad, such as the WAI, Drentsmuseum NL and Het Depot, Wageninen NL.
