Goethe-Institut Bandung’s 50th-anniversary celebration takes place on 23 March 2019 and features artistic and musical performances guaranteed to deliver delightful insights into the history of the Goethe-Institut Bandung.
Vincent Rumahloine demonstrates his artistic skills by taking you on a trip through the institute’s past, present and future. A historical photo exhibition calls on augmented reality to link the history of the Goethe-Institut Bandung with the present. The interplay of modern technology in which photographs are interconnected with apps makes it possible for the photographic treasures of the last five decades to be stunningly visualized. A here-and-now happening focuses on ecology via a live art performance by Bandung’s internationally well-known visual artist Tisna Sanjaya. Top musical entertainment is on stage with the Bandung Philharmonic Orchestra followed by the band Good Night Electric to ramp up the power with a pop concert.

It has been an eventful and successful five decades of language and cultural work since the Goethe-Institut Bandung opened its doors as a branch of the Goethe-Institut Jakarta in 1969. In June of the same year, the institute moved to the former residence of the Dutchman Paul Jüttner, a house that had previously been home to the Bandung German School.
Over the next five decades, the Goethe-Institut Bandung welcomed a great many important visitors in addition to engaging in its core activities—language, library, and cultural events. The Goethe-Institut Bandung looks back on numerous events and fruitful collaborations, for example with the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMFI), with the DAAD, with Studienkolleg Indonesia, the German Embassy, the Indonesian Cultural and Tourism Office, and Bandung art galleries.
