Contemporary experimental music

The project Toija by Tesla Manaf and Gatot Alindo reinterprets experimental and cinematic music through non-conforming sounds. Manaf’s early 2017 compositions for Toija mix loud, sharp sounds and layered tones. Using noise music as the background in the compositions, drums make up their main rhythm and theme.

Featuring:

Tesla Manaf – Composer, performer
Gatot Alindo – Performer
Desal Sembada – Performer
Ditra Prasista – Performer

Tesla Manaf spent the first decade of his career performing classical music. Jazz eventually gave him limitless room for exploration and the opportunity to grow into a well-rounded musician. His father’s record collection that he listened to as a child still influences his experimental music today.

As musician and performer, he has had engagements both nationally and internationally, amongst others in Japan, Turkey and the Netherlands. As artist-in-residence he spent some time in Cappadocia and Barcelona, Spain.

In the series Alur Bunyi, the Goethe-Institut presents and discusses contemporary positions of experimental (not just) electronic music from Indonesia and Germany. This year's edition of Alur Bunyi is curated by Gerald Situmorang.
