As part of the performance series Anders Hören, or Listening Differently, Goethe-Institut Indonesien is proud to present the musical series Alur Bunyi, which will be held monthly starting from August at GoetheHaus, Jakarta. Alur Bunyi intends to create an anti-mainstream musical experience. Therefore, the exciting performances juxtapose electronic music with other genres. Our audience will enjoy featured performances from some of Indonesia’s best musicians, such as Gerald Situmorang, Jevin Julian, Patrick Hartono, Adra Karim and more, who will collaborate with German musicians Marcus Schmickler, Linnéa (Trade / No Shade / Berlin) and others.

Patrick Hartono
Born in Makassar, Patrick Gunawan Hartono is an electroacoustic composer and intermedia artist. In art and music, Patrick is interested in the use of technology and scientific approaches as creative tools. He is also interested in 3-D sound spatialisation, analog/digital synthesis, psychoacoustic, and visual music. For most of his works, he uses the sound of Indonesian traditional music instruments, computer generated sounds/images, field recordings, and underwater photography, which are transformed, rearranged, modulated by mathematical rules, real time interaction, and controlled random operations.
He performed at various international festivals, conferences, and venues, such as YCMF (Yogyakarta, Indonesia), WOCMAT (Taiwan), ZKM (Germany), IRCAM (France), NYCEMF (USA) and more. Patrick holds a bachelor degree in music composition from the Codarts University of the Arts Rotterdam. He is currently based in London and studies at the Goldsmith College of the University of London, where he is actively involved in the local and international electroacoustic and experimental media scene.
Marcus Schmickler
Schmickler does research on extended methods for composition of perception-specific properties in sound and its spatialization. Marcus Schmickler studied composition with Prof. Johannes Fritsch and Electronic Music with Prof. Hans-Ulrich Humpert at the University of Music and Dance Cologne, as well as musicology at the University of Cologne. He has earned awards, commendations and scholarships, among them from Ars Electronica, the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and was the curator for festival programs including at the Berlin Academy of Arts and the ZKM (Center for Art and Media) Karlsruhe.
Schmickler has served as a juror for the expert committee on New Music and for the German music advisory board (Deutscher Musikrat). As an author, he has written articles on sonification and on music aesthetics. He runs the Piethopraxis Tonstudio in Cologne, where he creates most of his works, including the composition of scores for award-winning films and radio plays. Since 2010, Marcus Schmickler has been a faculty member in the MFA program for music/sound at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and has been visiting professor of Composition and Experimental Sound Practices (ESP) at CalArts in Valencia, California. At the Institute of Music and Media (IMM) of the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media in Düsseldorf, he teaches Hybrid Sound Composition in Music Informatics since 2015, Composition as part of Visual Music since 2016, and Media Time Forms as part of the Master studies Sound and Reality since 2017.
