Cultural heritage is the fabric of our lives and societies

Indonesia's history, especially since the monumental independence in 1945, has left deep marks in the country’s cityscapes. Tangible as well as intangible cultural heritage is the theme of this digital project.
How to deal with different forms of cultural heritage is a topic that also interests the younger generation. The digital world in which we live provides new ways of approaching our legacy and allows us to view it creatively and interactively.

“Hack your heritage!" is a joint project of Goethe-Institut Bandung and Institut Francais d'Indonesie (Bandung) that is funded by the Élysée Fund. It aims to discuss cultural heritage in the framework of a hackathon. In this context, young Indonesians from various disciplines will be given 72 hours to create and develop a digital approach to the topic of cultural heritage. Experts will provide the participants with an introductory overview and then accompany them with support. At the end, all projects will be presented, and the idea that is best suited for learning about and appreciating the cultural heritage of the city will be selected.
The project is organized in the framework of The European Year of Cultural Heritage Year 2018. The aim is to convey the basic values – of the European Union in Indonesia – in particular those of the German-French duo – and to highlight them through intercultural dialogue.

“Hack your heritage!” will take place 21–23 September 2018 at the Bandung Creative Hub. Parallel to the hackathon, an array of workshops, city tours and conferences with experts from Germany, France and Indonesia will be offered.
