© Nef LuczonNef Luczon (Rhyndl Nephi-Z T. Luczon) started his career in mass media in 2007 as a journalist based in Mindanao, Southern Philippines. He has experiences in the fields of print, radio and television, while further enhancing his filmmaking skills in-between free times by producing and directing experimental-narrative and documentary short films that made into the selection in local and national film festivals.

His interest and appreciation in documentary filmmaking was even developed when he worked in television that produces news features and documentaries, and eventually reached “maturity” after his experience with DocNet’s Southeast Asia’s Summer Film School in September 2012, and with his first documentary short film he co-produced and directed, “Under the Purple Sky,” won Best Documentary at the Mindanao Film Festival in the same year.

In July 2013, his second documentary short, “Melody of the Past,” bagged Best Documentary and Most Elderly Sensitive award at the 2nd Digital Video Competition organized by the University of the Philippines–Open University, where he is also finishing his Master’s degree in Development Communication.

Other than a freelance filmmaker who produces and directs his own films for now, and a freelance journalist writing for various news agencies, he is also teaching part-time communication and mass media arts of the Department of Technology Communication Management in Mindanao University of Science and Technology.
