Myra Beltran set into motion the independent contemporary dance scene in the Philippines, striking out on her own as an independent artist in 1991, and starting her Dance Forum in 1997. Together with what became the Contemporary Dance Network Manila, she set up in 2005 the Contemporary Dance Map, a series of intimate contemporary performances ???staged??? in each network member???s studios. The success of the Map led to the establishment of the Wifi Body Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Despite the celebration of the last festival in 2014, Beltran continues her artistic pursuits, producing a year-long dance residency entitled Dancers Curating Dancers, which has been nicknamed Dancers Curate. Andrew Simmons was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and danced with the Royal New Zealand Ballet from 2003 ??? 8 before pursuing a career as a choreographer. Since 2009 he has been based in Dresden. Andrew Simmons returned to New Zealand in April 2015 to create his fifth commission for the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Dear Horizon, to a specially commissioned score by Gareth Farr, will have its world premiere as part of the RNZB???s Salute programme, in Wellington on 22 May. Following a New Zealand tour, the work will also be seen in the UK and Italy when the RNZB travels to Europe in October/November this year.More ...
