When God Sleeps
"It was't my songs that made me famous, it was the Fatwa". "When God Sleeps" depicts the journey of Iranian musician Shahin Najafi, who was forced into hiding after hardline clerics issued a fatwa for his death in 2012, incensed by a rap song that focused on the oppression of women and human rights abuses. As a youth, Najafi was talented in recitation of the Koran. Now each of his concerts puts his life at risk. Till Schauder unfolds the story of his excape to Germany againt the background of the Paris attacks in 2015 and the growing rightwing sentiment in Europe against refugees from the Middle East.

Gaza is mostly known for its enduring conflict. Neighboring countries Egypt and Israel have closed their borders and it's easy to forget about the people stuck while living in Gaza. Directors Philip Gnadt and Mickey Yamine report on Gaza from a different angle in their documentary about young people that find freedom by surfing the Gaza coast.
