Public Talk and Discussion
Reiner Nagel on Quality of Building Processes
As part of the 2017 Annual Conference of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland
At the annual conference of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Reiner Nagel, director of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur, will speak about "Baukultur – Design Quality through implemented planning processes".
In his talk he will refer to central topics of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur, whose goal is a high quality and reflected building process. Furthermore the quality of designed public spaces and the built environment will be discussed. He will also speak about dealing with restrictive and difficult planning, participation and building process, which often lead to unsatisfactorily designed spaces. The quality of a competently planned, openly communicated and professionally implemented building project is recognizable by its appropriate and enriching design in the city – as well as in the countryside. One of the main theses is: Well-built living spaces can only emerge as the result of good processes.
Reiner Nagel is an architect and urban planner. Since Mai 2013 he is the Director of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur, based in Potsdam. Previously he was working in Urban Development as well as urban landscape and public space planning for the City of Berlin and the City of Hamburg. He is a lecturer of Urban Design at the Technische Universität Berlin and a member of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Spatial Planning as well as an associate member of the Association of German Architects.
